Dresden has a long history as the capital and royal residence for the Electors and Kings of Saxony, who for centuries furnished the city with cultural and artistic splendour. Since German reunification in 1990 Dresden is again a cultural, educational and political centre of Germany.
The Technische Universität Dresden is one of the 10 largest universities in Germany with 34,838 students. Since 2012, the TUD is one of the eleven Excellence Initiative Universities in Germany. The university has 14 faculties which are located on the main campus south of the city center.
The Faculty of Computer Science provides facilities for more than 1,800 students. Students can choose between 12 different courses and can graduate either as a Bachelor, Master, state examination, or with a Diploma. This wide range of choices is complemented by international master programs and various structured PhD-programs.
